“Papercraft Self Portrait” by Eric Testroete. Wow… This is too cool! Imagine a party where everyone brought one of themselves… Then swapped them?

The ineffable Anti-Pop Consortium live at the Scala last night. Completely unedited shots straight from the camera… Booya! This show was flawless. Don’t really know what to say about it. Top quality. They had the energy of a group passionate about their craft. And what a craft! Their lyricism is unsurpassed in both delivery and depth… They killed it! The crowd loved it.

ApSci and Juice Aleem live at the Scala. Support for Anti-Pop Consortium

ApSci from NYC had an interesting setup. The duo took a while to setup and get things just right. But once they got started they had a fresh style, and a perfectly synchronised video setup. Things were running late and they had to cut their set short though. Enjoyable stuff. Will definitely check out their album now.

Juice Aleem started off the set. I wasn’t too impressed - well I walked out after 2 tracks to be honest. It’s a hard job being a support act I guess. Trying to enthuse a crowd that’s wanting to see someone else. But the sound wasn’t up to scratch either, just a bit all over the place…

I actually went to another gig before all this: Nive Nielsen at Kings Place. Nive is an Eskimo (Inuit) singer songwriter from Greenland!

Cosmic Fireworks - I missed this year’s display, so this is from last year… Is that lazy?

Oorutaichi - the eclectic solo Japanese musician - live at Kings Place as part of the London International Festival of Exploratory Music (LIFEM09) this evening…

This eclectic solo Japanese musician put on a great little set this evening. I’ve been to Kings Place twice now, and it’s not the most atmospheric of venues in which to perform - especially considering there is really no sort of warm-up support act(s), drink, etc… Oorutaichi’s music perhaps most closely resembles ‘The Milk of Human Kindness’ Caribou, with more African or perhaps Dancehall beats behind it. And a little more eclectic and out there. Really fun stuff. Looking forward to hearing his album…
